James Montgomery

James Montgomery began his legal career as a London barrister in 1989, defending and prosecuting criminal jury trials, from mortgage fraud to murder. After more than 30 years in practice, he is a polished courtroom lawyer, who has tried hundreds of difficult cases to verdict and argued many appeals.

James moved to NYC in 2000 and his trial skills are widely recognized by other lawyers, in both civil and criminal matters. He has been called upon him to pick juries, cross-examine witnesses or conduct all or parts of a trial, notably in significant high-value commercial actions. In his criminal practice, James understands that for many clients avoiding prosecution altogether is the goal.

James is often retained by individuals and corporations in civil actions, usually involving breaches of contract or employment-related matters, where he is able to use to good effect his substantial courtroom experience and knowledge of the law.

James also regularly advises on matters governed by English law and appears in court in jurisdictions where it applies. He is admitted to practice in New York, England and Wales.

James is an approachable individual with a direct style, who gives his clients frank and honest advice, thereby allowing them to make the best decision in their circumstances.
