Marta González-Ruano Calles focuses her practice on international dispute resolution, with particular emphasis on investment and commercial arbitration, as well as transnational disputes involving sovereign states, especially in Latin America. Her experience spans a wide range of industries, including financial services, mining, telecommunications, and public–private partnerships.
Prior to joining Dunning Rievman & MacDonald LLP, Marta practiced at White & Case LLP in New York, where she represented investors and sovereigns in complex arbitration proceedings under ICSID, UNCITRAL, and ICC rules, and advised companies navigating political and regulatory uncertainty in cross-border investments. She previously worked at Uría Menéndez in Madrid, representing international and domestic clients in both arbitration and litigation, including appearances before Spanish civil courts and the negotiation of class action settlements in the banking and automotive sectors.
Earlier in her career, Marta gained in-house experience at Iberdrola S.A., a major Spanish energy company, where she oversaw corporate governance matters for international and domestic subsidiaries. She also worked at Cuatrecasas, advising public institutions in administrative proceedings, particularly in the real estate and energy sectors. In addition, Marta served as a volunteer legal counsel for the Spanish Committee of UNICEF, contributing to initiatives supporting children’s rights and welfare.
Marta earned her LL.M. from Columbia Law School with honors, as a “la Caixa” Foundation Scholar, and received the Parker School Certificate of Achievement in International and Comparative Law. While at Columbia, she co-founded and served as Vice President of the Columbia Society for Legal Practice in Spanish and sat on the board of the Columbia International Arbitration Association. She also holds a Master’s in Legal Practice from Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE) in Madrid, where she graduated with highest honors and received the Extraordinary Merit Award.
Marta is actively engaged in the international arbitration community, particularly in New York. She serves as a spokesperson for the New York Chapter of the Spanish and Ibero-American Arbitration Club (CEIA) and is a board member of the Blockchain Arbitration Society (BACS). She is also a member of the Global Advocacy Alliance (ADF International), Young ITA, Nova Talent, and the US-Spain Chamber of Commerce. Marta dedicates part of her time to pro bono work through these organizations and offers professional coaching for individuals applying to scholarships and LL.M. programs worldwide.
